The Surgery
You will be admitted to the BUPA Hospital Washington on the day of the operation. You will be seen by Mr Erdmann prior to surgery, the operation details explained and skin markings may be used to highlight areas on the body which need special attention, such as fatty deposits for liposuction. This is necessary as quite often finer details are lost whilst under anaesthetic and lying on one's back. Any further concerns will be answered at this stage. Alterations to planned procedures can be made within reason, for example requesting a change in breast implant size. Usually significant additional surgery cannot be accommodated due to time constraints in theatre, although minor additions are possible. The majority of procedures will require an overnight stay although this is not always essential. We believe that it is wiser to keep an eye on you as a patient overnight as you will have adequate painkillers, good nursing care and reassurance that you will be seen by your surgeoin the following day. Quite often after surgery, one's recollection of events and the surgeon's explanation of the procedure is hazy due to the after-effects of the general anaesthetic. Following surgery you will be reviewed by Mr Erdmann each day you are in hospital and there is a team of on-call doctors to manage any unexpected complications.
